Dharamshala, Mcleodganj and Triund Tour Overview

Here’s a sample 3-day / 2-night itinerary for the Laka Glacier trek (via Triund) near McLeod Ganj / Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh. You can tweak it to fit your pace, season, and preferences.

Dharamshala, Mcleodganj and Triund Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Starting Point: McLeod Ganj / Bhagsu Nag (in Kangra Valley)

Arrive at Dharamshala / McLeod Ganj, check in and prepare for the trek.

Early morning start (after breakfast) from Bhagsu Nag or Dharamkot village. The trail goes through deodar/oak/rhododendron forest, gradually ascending.

Distance: ~8-10 km (varies by starting point) to reach Triund Top (~2,850 m) or the campsite near it.

Set up camp at Triund (or use pre-arranged tent/guest-house). Evening: enjoy sunset over the valley, panoramic views of the y operator (if booked).

Tip:

Start early so you reach Triund with daylight.

Carry layers (it gets chilly at night).

Hydrate well, pace yourself on the climb.
Day 2
After breakfast at camp, begin the ascent from Triund towards Laka Glacier (via Snowline café / Laka Got meadow). The terrain becomes more rugged, moraine/rocky patches, possibly snow depending on season.

Distance: ~5-6 km from Triund to the glacier viewpoint (so total day might be 10–12 km if you count up & down) depending on route.

At Laka Glacier: Spend time appreciating the views, take photos, maybe short snow play (seasonal).

Return to Triund campsite in the evening. Overnight stay.

Tip:

The trek is steeper on this day — trekking poles can help.

Watch the weather: snow/melt makes paths slippery.

On seasonal snow, good footwear and grip matter.

Carry snacks & water for the day.
Day 3
After breakfast, break camp and begin the descent along the trail to Bhagsu Nag / McLeod Ganj. This is mostly downhill, easier in terms of climbing but take care of your knees & footing.

Distance: ~8-10 km (or as per route) depending on start/endpoint.

Reach base by midday/afternoon. Conclude the trek and return to accommodation or onward journey.

Tip:

Stretch before descent; keep speed moderate to avoid slipping.

Allow some time to explore McLeod Ganj: markets, cafés, local Tibetan culture.

Check weather & transport for your next leg.
